The Author

7 WIPs & Counting

I have no fewer than seven works in progress and it is daunting. I’m trying desperately not to let the sheer amount of creative flow overwhelm me, but it’s getting pretty close. Many authors would say that it is amazing to have so much inspiration and have, except it’s not all it’s chalked up to be. A lot of the time it feels impossible to finish one task, because my mind keeps slipping off to dabble in other tales.

To give you an idea of the mad house my mind is currently trapped in:

  • Novella: Needs max 5 more chapters and then revision
  • Sara’s Moon is due for another round of edits
  • Haven’t even looked at my NaNoWriMo project (half of which I’m pretty sure I’ll scrap)
  • I have a massive list of notes that encompass fifteen stories, ten of which are brand new
  • Amidst all of this, I have committed to read 3 works written by other author’s and provide feedback.

But despite the impressive and rather daunting list of things to do, I’m holding steady and determined to take each writing moment as it comes. Carving out time isn’t the real problem, the real problem, is actually using that time for what it was carved out for. Netflix is seductive. Household chores still need to be done. Dinner won’t cook itself.

How do you stay focused when there are a million and one things to do and another half that you would rather be doing? At this rate, I’m literally pulling up various files until I find one I’m willing to spend time on, working on it for as long as I can focus, then shifting to wherever my fancy strikes me.
